Still got questions?

How do I use Photon?
Press the power button for 2 seconds to start a 10-minute session. Hold the device 2-6 inches from bare skin on the area you want to target. The device auto-shuts off after 10 minutes.
How far should I hold Photon from my skin?
For recovery protocols (legs, back, shoulders): 2-4 inches. For skin protocols (face, neck): 4-6 inches. Closer distance delivers higher irradiance, which is relevant for deeper tissue. Further distance is gentler and appropriate for facial use.
How soon will I see results?
It depends on your goal and consistency. Some users notice improvements in their post-exercise recovery routine within the first few weeks. More gradual changes like skin appearance typically take 6-8 weeks of consistent use. Everyone responds to light differently.
What wavelengths does Photon use?
660nm red light, which is commonly studied for skin appearance and collagen-related benefits, and 850nm near-infrared light, which penetrates deeper and is commonly studied for recovery-related applications. Both wavelengths are emitted simultaneously from every LED.
What is Photon Protocols?
Photon Protocols is a PowerPlug built into the Ultrahuman app that provides personalised, structured daily guidance for using your Photon. It generates a daily recommendation based on your goals and your body data. For Ring users, this is computed from your recovery, sleep, and activity signals. For all users, it provides goal-based protocols with smart scheduling, body area rotation, and adherence tracking. No other red light device does this.
What is the warranty and return policy?
1-year manufacturer warranty. 30-day return policy from date of delivery.
How often should I use Photon?
For best results, 3-5 times per week consistently over 8+ weeks. Published PBM research suggests consistency is the primary driver of outcomes. Building a regular practice over weeks is what matters.
Can I use Photon on any body area?
Yes. Common areas include face, neck, knees, calves, lower back, shoulders, and arms. Photon Protocols provides a rotation schedule based on your chosen goal so you don't have to figure this out yourself.
Can I use Photon with clothes on?
You can, but for best results, expose bare skin to the light. Clothing reduces the amount of light reaching your skin.
How does Photon Protocols work with Ultrahuman Ring?
Your recovery score, sleep data, and workout logs shape your daily Photon recommendation. Low recovery after leg day? The app knows. We'll share more on how this works closer to launch.
Do I need an Ultrahuman Ring to use Photon Protocols?
No. Photon Protocols works for everyone. Non-Ring users get structured, goal-based protocols with weekly rotation schedules, adherence scoring, and helpful reminders to keep you on track. Ring makes it more personalised, but it is not required.
When will the Photon Protocol PowerPlug be available?
Photon Protocols will be available in the Ultrahuman app when your Photon arrives.
Is red light therapy safe?
Red and near-infrared light therapy has been studied in thousands of peer-reviewed papers over 50+ years. It is generally well-tolerated with minimal reported side effects. Everyone responds to light differently, so we recommend starting with shorter sessions if you are new to red light therapy.
Do I need eye protection?
We recommend not looking directly at the LEDs, especially when using Photon near your face. Close your eyes during facial sessions. Protective eyewear is recommended for extended facial use.
Can I use Photon if I take medications?
Certain medications may increase light sensitivity. If you take any medications that affect how your skin responds to light, we recommend consulting your healthcare provider before using Photon.
Can I use Photon if I’m pregnant?
We recommend consulting your healthcare provider before use if you are pregnant.
Can I use Photon on tattooed skin?
Yes. Start with shorter sessions at a slightly further distance on heavily tattooed areas and adjust as you get comfortable.
How long should each session be?
Photon is designed for 10-minute sessions with auto-shutoff. This is the recommended session length based on published PBM research and is built into every protocol.
Can I travel with Photon?
Absolutely. Photon is portable, rechargeable, and comes with a hard EVA carrying case. It charges via USB-C and works with a universal adapter (US/EU/UK/AU). Take it to the gym, on holiday, or anywhere your routine goes.
