Striking is a different problem from movement. Running adds a rhythm to the signal that a sensor can learn to ignore; a strike lands as a shock that displaces the sensor against your skin for a moment. The reading has to survive the impact rather than model it.

Everything else about the hand is working against it too. Wraps compress the finger, gloves press the ring into it, and bracing at the moment of contact tightens the forearm that feeds the vessels being read.

Rounds of shadow kickboxing with light sparring are interval work with impact added at the sensor site, and that is what the figure here describes.
