Cardiorespiratory fitness is one of the strongest predictors of how long and how well people live, and it declines quietly with age: across the United States reference standards for laboratory-measured VO₂max, the median falls by roughly 10% a decade from the twenties to the seventies. Put on an age scale it becomes something you can actually act on. But a number like that is only worth reading if it stays put when nothing about you has changed, because a score that wanders on its own can never tell you that you have improved.

Followed across twelve months, the typical member’s Cardio Age varied by about 1.2 years around their own average. Against that quiet background, real change stands out clearly: people who got fitter came out 3.24 years younger and those who declined 3.49 years older, roughly three times the ordinary drift and in the direction you would expect.
