In a car the Ultrahuman Ring adds fewer than two steps a minute, roughly 100 across an hour of driving — under a minute of real walking.
Road vibration is the one motion in ordinary life that genuinely resembles walking. It is periodic, it sits in roughly the same frequency band as a stride, and it reaches the hand through the wheel, the seat and the frame of the vehicle. Every step counter has to solve it, and several in the published record have not.
In a car the Ultrahuman Ring added 1.6 steps a minute. An hour in traffic therefore costs about 100 steps, which on a 10,000-step day is close to a rounding error. The right-hand bar shows why that is small: real walking arrives at roughly 102 steps a minute, more than 60 times faster.
A two-wheeler is the harder version of the same problem, because the road reaches your hands directly through the bars with nothing between. It runs higher, at 7.0 steps a minute, and it is reported on its own rather than averaged into the car figure — the two do not describe the same thing.
What holds both of them down is that the test is applied to the whole journey rather than to a moment. Vehicle motion is rhythmic in bursts, over a stretch of coarse road or across a speed bump, but across a full journey only about a seventh of it holds a steady stride rhythm, where real walking holds one for two-thirds of the time or more.
